Yellowstone National Park is Open
Yellowstone National Park is always open seven days a week,
twenty-four hours a day; we never close. Visit our Plan Your Visit
section to begin planning your trip.

Park Roads
Where can you drive right now? All park entrances open, but road
conditions can change rapidly and weather may cause temporary closures
or restrictions that may impact travel. Please see our Park Roads page
for more park road information or call our 24-hour road information
line at 307-344-2117 for updates .

Smoke and Haze
We have several active wildfires in the Greater Yellowstone Area that,
at times, could be putting up smoke columns and causing haze in the
park. The Emigrant Fire is to the north of Yellowstone and the Snake
fire is on south boundary of the park. None of the fires pose threats
to visitors or area residents. The Mount Washburn Fire Lookout webcam
is currently pointed in the direction of a new fire start that was
spotted north east of Mount Washburn toward Druid Peak.

Hiking and Walking Trails
"Most travelers content themselves with what they may chance to see
from their car-windows..." John Muir
When you venture down a trail, you discover wonders that few driving
get a chance to experience. Most trails are dry and accessible. Read
about hiking in the park and be sure to talk with visitor center staff
once you are here to find out what specific conditions are like.

Wildlife
Wildlife abounds in Yellowstone. It's that fascinating time of year
when the grunts and bellows of the bison rut are starting to be heard
in Hayden Valley. Bison are unpredictable, agile, and very quick so
please don't approach them. Always use caution when viewing wildlife.
Please see our wildlife viewing page and our bear safety page for
safety information.

Weather
Weather is fickle in the mountains. Be prepared: it can be sunny one
minute, and cold and snowy the next. Before traveling, check
Yellowstone weather forecasts and advisories at Yellowstone's weather
page or the National Weather Service.

Wildflowers
It's that time of year: wildflowers are still spectacular right now,
especially as you head higher in elevation. We have reports of
fireweed, paintbrush, American Bistort, lupine, and Elephant Heads, to
name a few. There are many more flowers carpeting the lush and
magnificently green landscape with spots of color.

Rivers and Streams
Most streams have dropped to levels that are safe to cross, however
heavy rains from afternoon thunderstorms have caused some streams to
rise quickly to unsafe levels. If crossing, assess your situation,
scout out the safest location, and use caution and be safe. A few of
the larger rivers (Yellowstone River south of Yellowstone Lake) are
not yet crossable. The Boiling River is open and is a popular
destination, but please be safe and exercise good judgement while
visiting.
