| SEATTLE – For the next two nights, drivers on northbound Interstate 5 will see traffic reduced to a single lane under the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle. Washington State Department of Transportation maintenance crews will test the fire suppression system and will need to close lanes to safely complete the work. Beginning at 11:59 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 16, northbound I-5 traffic will be routed to the collector-distributor lane. Crews will close the right three lanes of northbound I-5 under the convention center until 4 a.m. The Cherry Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 and the Olive Way off-ramp will also be closed at that time. Crews will again reduce northbound I-5 traffic to a single lane and route drivers to the collector-distributor lane Friday, Aug. 17, from 11:59 p.m., until 4 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 18. The University Street on-ramp to northbound I-5 will also close at that time. Flammable cargo will also be restricted in both directions of I-5 under the convention center. Drivers transporting flammable material on I-5 should use alternate routes such as Interstate 405, Interstate 90 or State Route 520. Drivers can check travel conditions by going to the Seattle traffic website or by dialing 5-1-1.
