Guy – There's a new petition taking off on Change.org, and we think you might be interested in signing it.
My dog Doodle died because someone carelessly spit out their gum. Doodle ingested some discarded gum containing xylitol, a common sweetener found in gums and candy. By the time Doodle showed symptoms, it was too late. She fell into a coma and never woke up.
Many people are not aware of xylitol, let alone that it is deadly to dogs. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center has seen a significant spike in reported cases of xylitol poisoning. l believe that if people knew of this danger, they would handle products containing xylitol more carefully, and many dogs' lives would be saved.
I'm calling on the FDA to require all products containing xylitol to have a warning label that it is deadly to dogs.
I am hoping that Doodle's death won't be for nothing; that it will inspire others to join me in the fight to educate pet owners about xylitol's risks. Too many owners will experience the helplessness I felt if we are not successful.
With your help, we can get the FDA to take action and stop needless deaths. It's time for the FDA to require a warning label on all xylitol products.
