Petitioning Michigan State House, Michigan State Senate, Rick Snyder Ban inhumane and dangerous animal gas chambers

Six states still use gas chambers to euthanize shelter animals, despite recommendations by the American Veterinary Medical Association against them. Michigan is among those still using this inhumane method. But there is a bill in front of the Michigan Legislature -- Grant's Bill -- to ban gas chambers in the state. With your help, we can get it passed and signed by the governor.
What animals experience in these gas chambers is horrific. It can take up to 30 minutes for an animal to die, compared to 5 seconds with lethal injection. Many of them experience convulsions or go into a coma instead of dying. And multiple animals are often placed in a tight space, giving them a heightened sense of panic and fear. With a humane option available, there is no reason for cruel gas chambers to be used.
Grant's Bill is named after Grant, a dog who was killed in a Michigan gas chamber despite great efforts to save him. His memory is inspiring people to take action, and we can win. Other states have passed bills that have become law. Georgia recently passed Grace's Law, outlawing gas chambers. We can do the same for Michigan.
It's time for Michigan to follow other states' lead and ban gas chambers. With your signature and support, we can pass Grant's Bill. Our shelter pets deserve better.
A note on taking action: This is a passionate issue for people who care about animals. Please do not call shelters directly; this is often counterproductive. The best action is to share this petition, contact county commissioners where gas chambers are in use, and contact Michigan state legislators to urge them to pass Grant's Law.
