Your Choices Matter

This week NYC DOT launched a new public awareness campaign to remind motorists that the choices they make behind the wheel matter.

“Your Choices Matter” aims to identify and change key behaviors that contribute to pedestrian fatalities, which include speeding, failure to yield to pedestrians, and distracted driving. The images featured in the campaign include pedestrian-victims and their belongings with headlines that emphasize the choice that caused the crash. The taglines are calls to action for safer streets: watch for pedestrians, look before turning, slow down, avoid distractions.

Broadway Designated as 1 of APA's 10 Great Streets in America

The American Planning Association (APA) named NYC's Broadway corridor as one of the 10 Great Streets in America for 2014! APA says that these places represent the gold standard for having a true sense of place, cultural and historical interest, community involvement, and a vision for tomorrow that adds value to communities and fosters economic growth and jobs.

“Broadway reflects the city it runs through. Its 14 miles in Manhattan from Bowling Green to West 230th Street in Marble Hill makes it a true Main Street that all New Yorkers can be proud of,” said DOT Commissioner Polly Trottenberg.

Urban Regeneration II Comes to East Tremont Ave. in the Bronx

NYC DOT's Art Program in collaboration with the Westchester Square Business Improvement District unveiled the art installation Urban Regeneration II by NYC artist Linda Cunningham this week at East Tremont and Westchester Ave. in the Bronx.

Influenced by Chinese gardens, the twisted steel forms and large rocks act as metaphoric plants creating an urban garden in the middle of the Bronx. All of the stones within the artwork come from different parts of the US, such as Vermont, California and the Delaware River Valley, and are all different types of stone, such as fossil rock, quartz and red flame lava. As part of the DOT Art Site to Site program track, this artwork was originally located in a garden and has now been relocated and reframed in an urban setting.
