Planned Lane Closure for Landslide Repairs on US-31 NB near MP 270
Between Shades Crest Road and SR 149 (Lakeshore Drive), in
Homewood/Vestavia Hills Area

BIRMINGHAM – On Saturday, April 12, weather permitting, between 8 a.m.
and 4 p.m., the
Alabama Department of Transportation will begin repairs along US-31
northbound, near milepost
270, as follows:

 The US-31 northbound outside (right) travel lane and shoulder will
be closed to provide
adequate space for equipment and personnel to remove boulders, rocks
and mud, resulting
from the recent landslide.

 All travel lanes will be reopened to traffic by approximately 4 p.m.

 This work will continue next week dependent on weather conditions
and work progress.

Motorists are requested to consider using alternate routes, adjust
arrival/departure times, observe
work zone speed limits and other work zone signs, and use extreme
caution in this area. ALDOT

will remain open with the left turn lane closed. Local detours will be
in place, possible delays. Road Closure began April 21st, 2014 at

ramps to 6th Ave will be closed 9 pm to 5:30 am. 6th Ave will also be

36E Partial Closure alert. Impact is Severe ONE LANE ALTERNATING

and Estes Park (Milemarker 20-4)24 Hours- There will be one lane
alternating traffic for canyon wall stabilization and river channel
stabilization with possible blasting operations MO-FR, 6a-8a & 4p-6p,
10 minute traffic stops; 8a-4p, 1 hr traffic stops; 6p-6a & SA
6a-midnight, 30 minute traffic stops may be possible. Use alternate
route. Partial Closure began December 18th, 2013 at 4:30pm.

Schedule for the week of April 21-25:

Monday, April 21 & Tuesday, April 22 8:15AM-5PM - Continuous 30 minute
full closures in both directions followed by 45 minute traffic release
to clear the queue. Variable delays could range from 30-60+ minutes.
Tuesday, April 22 8AM - 4PM - Varying single lane closures between
mile markers 241-243 for striping operations.
Monday, April 21 - Thursday, April 24 5PM-5AM - Single lane closures
either direction for general construction activities.
Full closures are necessary for crews to perform rock scaling and
blasting operations.
Schedule subject to change. Other lane closures and delays possible.
