.ELEVATED AVALANCHE DANGER IN THE CHUGACH AND KENAI MOUNTAINS and Current conditions with outlook

THE CHUGACH NATIONAL FOREST AVALANCHE INFORMATION CENTER HAS ISSUED A
SPECIAL AVALANCHE BULLETIN FOR THE KENAI AND WESTERN CHUGACH MOUNTAINS
IN AND AROUND THE TURNAGAIN ARM AREA THAT IS IN EFFECT THROUGH
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 1ST, 2014.

DANGEROUS HUMAN TRIGGERED AVALANCHES ARE VERY LIKELY IN THE
BACKCOUNTRY. NATURAL AVALANCHES ARE LIKELY DURING PERIODS OF HEAVY
SNOWFALL AND HIGH WIND. TRAVEL IN AVALANCHE TERRAIN IS NOT
RECOMMENDED.

THIS WARNING DOES NOT INCLUDE SKI AREAS, HIGHWAYS, OR RAILROADS WHERE
AVALANCHE REDUCTION WORK IS PERFORMED.

HIGHER ELEVATIONS...
Today... Mostly cloudy with scattered snow and rain showers. A slight
chance of freezing rain. Highs in the lower to mid 30s. Variable wind
to 15 mph. Along turnagain arm and higher elevations...southeast wind
20 to 35 mph with gusts to 45 mph through early afternoon.
Tonight... Light snow at times...possibly mixed with rain in the
evening. Snow accumulation up to 2 inches. Lows 15 to 25. Light winds.
Thursday... Mostly cloudy. Scattered snow showers in the morning.
Highs in the 20s. Light winds.
