FREIGHT TRAVEL ALERT - ROAD/PASS REOPENED

LOCATION: US 2 Stevens Pass from milepost 64 at the summit to milepost 99 at the west end of Leavenworth

DETAILS: US 2 Stevens Pass reopened this afternoon when trees that were overloaded with snow and in danger of falling to the roadway, shed the excess snow on their branches, removing the threat. Warmer temperatures and a breeze that began last night and continued through the day, coupled with much less than forecast snowfall (3' instead of 8 to 11")

WSDOT's plans to conduct a test to see if helicopter backwash could dislodge the heavy snow and ice from trees threatening the highway set for Wednesday has been cancelled. Crews will continue to monitor conditions.
