U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force Arrests Alabama Homicide Suspect in
Tallahassee
Tallahassee, FL – The U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Fugitive Task
Force (FRFTF) announced today the arrest of Shannon Brewer,24 years of
age from Florence, Alabama for First Degree Murder and Attempted
Murder. Brewer was being sought by authorities in Huntsville, Alabama
after investigators determined that Brewer stabbed Mark Dishon and
Sandra Sikes at Dishon's home in Lauderdale County, Alabama.
Investigators stated that Mark Dishon died from his injuries while
Sikes was transported to a local hospital for her injuries. Alabama
authorities learned that Brewer and his brother Jerry Brewer fled
Alabama, after the stabbings, in a stolen 2001 Toyota Sequoia. Local
authorities contacted the US Marshals for assistance in locating and
apprehending the two brothers. The U.S. Marshals Florida Regional
Fugitive Task Force received an urgent request for assistance this
afternoon from U.S. Marshals in Alabama after information was received
that the two fugitives where headed to Tallahassee, Fl from
Bainbridge, GA. Task Force members immediately notified the Leon
County Sheriff's Office, Tallahassee Police Department and the Florida
Highway Patrol and established surveillance on the Hwy 27 and the I10
Corridor. Within an hour of receiving the above information a TPD Cops
Squad member spotted the vehicle at North Monroe St and I10. With
assistance from the LCSO Aviation Unit a rolling surveillance was
established on the two suspects until a safe location could be located
to intercept the vehicle. Information received from Alabama
authorities indicated that the two brothers had made statements that
they would "shoot it out" with any law enforcement officer who
attempted to stop them and both were considered Armed and Dangerous.
Due to the nature of the crime and threats from the suspects Task
Force members pinned the vehicle from all four sides in the 5300 block
of Village Way in Lakewood Village.
Facing an overwhelming law enforcement presence both Shannon Brewer
and Jerry Brewer quickly surrendered and where arrested without
incident. A black semi-automatic handgun along with a box of
ammunition was recovered from the front seat of the vehicle and the
vehicle was impounded by LCSO for evidence processing. US Marshal Ed
Spooner stated that the quick response from the US Marshals Task Force
along with the outstanding cooperation from the Tallahassee Police
Department, Leon County Sheriff's Office and the Florida Highway
Patrol were all key in the removal of these two dangerous fugitives
from the streets of Tallahassee.
The Tallahassee Division of the FRFTF is comprised of state and local
law enforcement officers from the Florida Department of Law
Enforcement, Gadsden County Sheriff's Office, Leon County Sheriff's
Office, Leon County State Attorney's Office, Liberty County Sheriff's
Office, Madison County Sheriff's Office, Perry Police Department,
Tallahassee Police Department, Taylor County Sheriff's Office, and the
Wakulla County Sheriff's Office.
